A text based indexing system for mammographic image retrieval and classification
2014
Abstract In modern medical systems huge amount of text, words, images and videos are produced and stored in ad hoc databases. Medical community needs to extract precise information from that large amount of data. Currently ICT approaches do not provide a methodology for content-based medical images retrieval and classification. On the other hand, from the Internet of Things (IoT) perspective, the ICT medical data can be produced by several devices. Produced data complies with all Big Data features and constraints. The IoT guidelines put at the center of the system a new smart software to manage and transform Big Data in a new understanding form. This paper describes a text based indexing sy…
Data Banks and Multivariate Statistics in Physical Anthropology
1984
In recent decades, the fields of administration and economy, the press and - last but not least - the sciences have been characterized by an “explosion of knowledge”, and, as a consequence, by the problem of managing the rapidly increasing mass of information. It has been estimated that knowledge doubles each five years, and even that the interval of doubling seems to decrease. The main response to this challenge are computerized and structured data collections called data banks. “Data banks are systems of data collections which are organized according to logical and/or formal criteria; they should make it possible to reproduce the data of the total collection arranged according to differen…
Overload of Medical Documentation: A Disincentive for Healthcare Professionals
2020
This review addresses the theories concerning the development and functioning of medical bureaucracy creating an excess of the patient records. An ever-growing number of medical files comply with the typical development of the bureaucratic management of an entrepreneurial organization, an essential feature of which is the life cycle of documentation. When the life cycle ends, an update is created with a multiplication of forms and items to be filled out, resembling that of what happens with the outdated computer program. Yet medical records should have a logical and well-functioning structure using the language of computer science in the form of a cascade or evolutionary model. Further, we …
An automatic system for helping health consumers to understand medical texts
2015
Medical texts (reports, articles, etc.) are usually written by professionals (physicians, medical researchers, etc.) who use their own language and communication style. On the other hand, these texts are often read by health consumers (as in the case of medical reports) who do not have the same skills and vocabularies of the experts and can have difficulties in text comprehension. To help a health consumer in understanding a medical text, it would be desirable to have an automatic system that, given a text written with medical (technical) terms, translates them in simple or plain language and provides additional information with the same kind of language. We have designed such a system. It …
